Last-Minute PTE Prep: 3–4 Weeks Before Changes

The PTE exam is about to change significantly, with human scoring being introduced starting 7th August. If you're planning to take the test before this update, now is the time to focus and follow a structured plan. This 3–4 week PTE study strategy by Vishal from Vision Language Experts (VLE) will help you achieve your desired score before the new system is implemented.

Week 1: Template Tasks & PTE Writing Practice

Begin your preparation by focusing on template-based tasks, especially those that influence PTE Writing scores. Practice Summarize Written Text, Summarize Spoken Text, and Essay Writing using reliable templates. Doing just one of each per day can strengthen your writing skills and maximize your scoring potential.

Boost Performance with Targeted PTE Listening Practice

Listening tasks carry significant weight, particularly write from Dictation and Repeat Sentences. Incorporate 40 dictations and 40 repeat sentences into your daily practice. Also, listen to English podcasts and spoken texts while commuting or doing household chores. This passive exposure will help improve your PTE Listening comprehension rapidly.

Sharpen Fluency with Daily PTE Speaking Drills

To improve your PTE Speaking, focus on tasks like Read Aloud, Describe Image, and Retell Lecture. Practicing 10 Read Alouds, 5 Describe Images, and 5 Lectures daily will enhance your fluency, pronunciation, and content. Make sure to also review and refine your intonation and stress patterns using feedback from mock tests.

Take a Full-Length PTE Mock Test

After your first few days of preparation, take a PTE Mock Test on the Vision Language Experts portal. It offers realistic scoring and detailed feedback to identify weak areas. Based on your performance, adjust your study focus in the following weeks and prioritize the sections where you lost marks.

Practice Summarize Group Discussion and Team-Oriented Tasks

Although not a core PTE Academic task, practicing Summarize Group Discussion activities—like group speaking or decision-making discussions—can enhance your ability to think critically and articulate ideas under pressure. These exercises also improve your confidence in real-time speaking scenarios.

Real-Life Communication: Respond to Situation

A great way to enhance your performance across speaking and listening sections is to simulate real-life communication. Practice how you would respond to situations like asking for directions, resolving issues, or participating in academic discussions. These drills will build spontaneity and clarity in your speech, which are crucial in the test.

Final Week Plan

In your final 7–10 days:

  • Take 1–2 more full mock tests
  • Continue with sectional mocks (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking)
  • Focus on top 5 tasks:
    • Write from Dictation
    • Repeat Sentences
    • Reading & Writing Fill in the Blanks
    • Reorder Paragraphs
    • Reading Fill in the Blanks

Summary

This strategy has helped hundreds of students achieve their PTE scores with confidence. Remember:

  • Stay consistent
  • Use effective templates
  • Evaluate progress with mock tests
  • Aim for 100% accuracy in key tasks
